At The Brownstone, our coordinators are at the heart of every event—bringing organization, creativity, and a whole lot of joy to each celebration.
Today we’re excited to introduce you to Victoria (Vicky) Finney, one of our talented Venue Coordinators who has been making magic happen with our team since October 2022.
What inspired you to become a venue coordinator?
Vicky’s journey into the wedding and event industry started in a personal way—her brother’s wedding at The Brownstone in May 2021.
“We loved the venue! When I was looking to start my side hustle, I wanted to step out of education but also take advantage of my skill set. Turns out the event industry and managing classrooms full of teenagers are very similar!”
Vicky joined The Brownstone in October 2022 as an event assistant and stepped into her first full year as a venue coordinator in January 2024.
Along the way, she’s built meaningful connections with couples and vendors in the welcoming NE Kansas event community—often partnering with local favorites like Oh My Goodies, Faith Valentine Photography, and Blooms on Boswell.
From Classrooms to Celebrations
Passion Fueled by Joy
What makes you passionate about the wedding and event industry?
“The joy. There is always someone happy to see us at events, and that joy is contagious!”
Her enthusiasm shows in the connections she’s built with couples, vendors, and even former students—since she still works as a certified teacher-librarian in Topeka.
Many past students have later become Brownstone couples, giving Vicky a unique opportunity to support them during one of life’s biggest milestones.
And when she’s not helping couples say “I do,” you might catch her enjoying the Rose Gardens at Lake Shawnee, browsing NOTO businesses, or walking the trails at Iliff Commons.
Vicky’s Design Style
When it came time to design her cocktail table at The Brownstone, Vicky leaned into her favorite florals: yellow roses and daisies.
The result? A table that radiates joy, color, and fun—just like her.
What inspired your design?
“Centerpieces do not need to be complicated to be beautiful. I wanted bright, happy colors that brought out a sense of cheerful simplicity.”
Fun Facts About Vicky
- Rubber Duckie Collection – She’s been collecting since before Jeep made them trendy, and now has 300+ ducks in all shapes and forms around her house!
- Side Hustle Meets Heart – She still works in education but finds a perfect balance between guiding students and celebrating couples.
- Nature Lover – Her garden doubles as a registered Monarch waystation, where she enjoys spending time with pollinators, plants, and her chickens.
Rapid-Fire with Vicky
Coffee or Tea? – Neither! She’s all about a Scooter’s Green Apple Infusion.
Go-to snack? – A warm chocolate chip cookie.
Best part of a wedding day? – “After you say I do—now the fun begins!”
Favorite event season? – Fall.
Décor trend she’s loving? – Bows.
Dream vacation? – The Amalfi Coast in southern Italy.
Song that gets her dancing? – Copperhead Road.
Final Thoughts
Vicky brings a cheerful energy and deep care for people into everything she does—whether it’s coordinating weddings, cheering on couples as they celebrate, or inspiring her students. Her love for joy, color, and community shines through, and we’re so lucky to have her on The Brownstone team.
